Using Office 365 with a 1and1 domain name - To Forward or Transfer Email ?

Working with a new Office 365 client last week we came across a situation where they wanted to keep the many email addresses and pop boxes for their 1and1 domain and only have 1 Office365 license for a single email address they wanted to use with the power of Office 365 linking that address to any PC, their Windows Mobile phone and laptop.

Initially we used the Using Office 365 with a 1and1 domain name - Part 2 article but this meant that email addresses that were popped on 1and1 would not work.

What we did in this case was to leave everything as it was in 1and1 and simply FORWARD the single email address to [office365emailaddress]@[office365domain].onmicrosoft.com.

This is the simplist way and allows you to continue to use pop addresses for other email addresses set up in 1and1.

thanks this worked but the account has the onmicrosoft.com address and i would like to us my own domain address is it possible to forward email and use my own domain?

Yes you can. You may need to create another user (like admin) but DON'T assign a licence to it. Log in to the admin account you just created and you can pick your original account and change the domain name of the email address in the pull-down.
