We have set up the Samsung Galaxy S2 to work with Microsoft Office365 AND BPOS using the ActiveSync capability of the Android operating system on the GS2.

It did take a couple of tries with what appeared to be the same settings but it appears to work fine synching email, calendars and contacts both with BPOS and Office 365.

Here is a summary of the key settings you will need rather than giving a step-by-step account.  If you need any help just add a comment.

Office 365 Settings

For office365 users we need to find out the server you are using.  It will be in a format like pod12345.outlook.com.  In order to find this setting you must go into office365 admin at portal.microsoftonline.com and do the following:

• Click Outlook at the top then the Options pull down on the top right and click "Show All Options"
• Scroll down and under Contact Numbers

• A popup will appear showing POP, IMAP and SMTP settings.  Write down the pod12345 value so example podnnnnn.outlook.com substituting nnnnn with your unique numbers
• In the Galaxy S2 go into the Accounts and Synchronisation menu and add a mail account of type Activesync Exchange
• When asked for the domain username this must be backslash your email address, so for example "\ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it "
• When prompted for the servername enter the podnnnnn.outlook.com you noted down in the previous step
• Make sure "Use SSL" and "Accept all SSL Certificates" are ticked
• After entering all the data press NEXT and the Galaxy S2 will try and verify the settings
• Once verified you may have to accept some settings sent from the office365 server.  For Galaxy S2 newbies this is hidden away and unless accepted prevents any sort of connection until accepted.  On the top left of the S2 screen you will see a settings icon.  Drag the top menu down and you will see the settings you must accept.  Simply do that and you should be good to go
• Finally select what you want to sync.  EMail, contacts and Calendar items is probably the most appropriate
• If you still can't get it to sync try the following from the office 365 portal
• Go to Mail -> Options -> Show All Options (like we did in the very first step)
• Switch from "Manage Myself" to "Manage my Organisation"
• Select "Phone and Voice" from the left menu
• Click the ActiveSync Device Policy
• Double click the default policy
• In the General settings tick "Allow devices that don't fully support these policies to synchronise"
• In the Device Security settings UNTICK "Require device password"

BPOS Settings

These settings are similar to the office365 settings above and you can actually follow the instructions above for the most part ignoring any of the instructions performed from portal.microsoftonline.com

• On the Galaxy S2 the Domain Username is backslash\emailaddress.  So for example if your email is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it the domain username is "\ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it " without the " characters
• The exchange server depends on which region you are in.  For Europe this is red002.mail.emea.microsoftonline.com.  For details of your region look under "Mobile Device URL's" in this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc745934.aspx

There shouldn't be any configuration required at the BPOS end.
